Productive Use and Rehabilitation of Saline Land (PURSAL)

Productive Use and Rehabilitation of Salt Affected Land (PURSAL) is a National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP) project undertaken in Tasmania from June 2004 to October 2005.

Australian Forest Growers contracted Private Forests Tasmania to deliver the project which had four components:

1. A Landholder Survey - Improving Adoption of Salinity Management Options in Tasmania.

Landholder Survey - Improving Adoption of Salinity Management Options 1.11 Mb

This report details the findings of a landholder survey conducted in October 2004. This is the first time a comprehensive salinity survey has been undertaken in Tasmania to determine landholder awareness, capacity to undertake remedial activity and the extent to which new land management options may be adopted.

The results and recommendations from the survey aim to assist development of on-ground salinity management options, adoption methodologies, assistance schemes and Natural Resource Management regional investment strategies.

2. A Book - Trees and Shrubs for Salinity Management in Tasmania.
Contact Private Forests Tasmania for your own copy or download a copy of the book via the link below.
Trees and Shrubs for Salinity Management in Tasmania 9.41 Mb

This book has brought together, for the first time, all relevant information from throughout Australia regarding trees, shrubs and salinity applicable to Tasmanian conditions. It aims to provide landholders, land managers and others interested in natural resource management with up to date information from site assessment through to species selection and site management, in one easy to read manual. A series of local case studies are a key feature of the book, providing Tasmanian landholder experience in areas such as saltbush, landslip remediation, eucalypt hybrid tree trials and mixed species establishment in saline soils.
