Silviculture Notes for New South Wales
Silviculture Notes for New South Wales
In over 640 pages and eleven documents, the Notes contain virtually all that was known about the silvics, silviculture and management history of the Moist Coastal Hardwoods, Moist Tableland Hardwoods, Dry Sclerophyll Ash, Blackbutt, River Red Gum, Spotted Gum, Flooded Gum, Dry Coastal Hardwoods, Alpine Ash, Cypress Pine and Rainforest forest types. George's purpose in compiling these Notes was to provide information to working foresters that was relevant, practical and easy to read so that they would have on hand the existing knowledge, experience and research from early times through the 1980s. In the 21st century forest values have changed somewhat, but the forests themselves are largely unchanged.
IFA recognises this opportunity to introduce the knowledge the Notes contain to a new and diverse audience of land managers. Their goal is to educate and inform, to improve land management practices and knowledge and to provide the objective historical context for forest management debates in NSW and elsewhere. The Notes are a unique resource and one that all forest land managers should be acquainted with.
